Training your dog to sit will ensure they are welcome almost everywhere. Even dog lovers are usually not impressed with muddy paw prints on the front of their nice clean shirt. The sit command is a dog training fundamental. It is useful in many situations and sets the foundation for further education.
PUPPIES
Puppies up to twelve weeks old can be taught the sit command at the same time they are bonding with you. Feeding times are the highlight of their day and you can make use of their focused attention at these times to start their training. Puppies are usually fed three times a day. For one of these meals cut fresh meat into cubes.
Give your pup a single piece of meat. As he licks the juice from your fingers he will be taking in your scent and associating your smell with one of his favorite things; food. Read the rest of this entry »

Training a dog is much more difficult than people tend to think. Most people assume that you can control the behavior of your furry friend just by yelling at him when he does bad things, and praising him when he does good things. Sadly, this tactic doesn’t work very often.
For starters, dogs don’t think the same way as humans. If you scold him for jumping on you when he’s soaked with rain, but pet him and play with him when he leaps on you while he’s clean, your dog will only become confused, and you won’t accomplish anything. Why? Because your loveable puppy doesn’t see the difference between jumping on you when he’s dirty, and jumping on you when he’s clean. The best way to tackle this problem is to choose either to scold him for jumping on you every time he does it, or to praise him for Read the rest of this entry »

(See More @ www.DogStarDaily.com ) In Week 3 owners continue to handle their pups, with special care for sensitive spots. A round of Pass the Puppy helps pups get accustomed to being handled by strangers (your vet will thank you). Pups get used to the idea of Stay as owners ask for longer duration positions. Owners also work on getting their pups to follow them off-leash, then they put the leashes on for a moment to learn the loose-leash exercise. Download all of SIRIUS Berkeley P1 at: store.payloadz.com

www.sitmeanssit.com In this episode of dealing with the dog problems of ‘Timber’, I take the dog and begin the training. It’s good for the owners to see what is possible and for his behavior to change and be consistent for longer and longer periods of time through attention. It is difficult to teach a dog anything until you have their attention, and this is a head strong Chesapeake Bay Retriever, that we need to turn around so that both owners can handle him comfortably in various situations. The owners of the dog like to do various outside activities, so running into distraction a long the way is certainly realistic so stay tuned for tommorrow’s episode! Dog training basics – The “stay” command
This should be called the “look deeply into my eyes” command because that’s really what it is all about. It is without a doubt the granddaddy of them all! It should be taught right along with house-training. This skill is all about teaching your dog to FOCUS on you, and shut out all distractions. Contrary to what you might think, when you command your dog to “stay” it should immediately look directly at you and be on full alert for your release command. In other words, you are asking your dog to do nothing until you say its okay, which takes a huge amount of concentration (especially for a young pup). For this reason you should start very slowly, and as always repetition is the key.

Every dog owner can benefit from a guide for training a dog. The best dogs are not always blue blood pedigrees. Rather, the best is one that has been trained to listen and respond to the commands of its owner. There are many ways to train a dog. You can take them to obedience school. You can even train the dog at home. However, when you select a guide for training a dog there are some particulars to look for.
Fit for Purpose
The first thing you need to address when choosing a guide for training a dog is to make sure it is written for your dog. This means, for example, if you have a puppy, the older dog training book will not work. You should choose something which will let you train your puppy to be house broken, leash constrained, other important obedience factors you would teach a puppy. If, on the other hand, you are working with an older dog, then you want one written accordingly.
Command Performance
A good guide for training a dog will include commands. You may want to train the dog with hand signals. The guide should show the proper signals. Pictures and diagrams are necessary when using this type of training.
Voice commands used by some trainers might be your choice when teaching your dog. Each guide for training a dog is different. You may have to search for one which shows you specifically how to use voice commands. This is one of the easiest methods of teaching a dog to behave.
Some trainers use whistle commands. If this is the route you opt for, you will want a detailed explanation of this technique. The best guide for training a dog in the use of whistle commands will be detailed in the process.
To be truly satisfied with the guide for training a dog, find one which offers all three methods. There are many on the market that are rather inexpensive. It is definitely a worthwhile investment to find a guide which is thorough. While researching the best guides to train a dog, you will find many trainers have written books on the subject. When you discover a qualified trainer who has authored a book on dog training, that is the one to buy. It will usually cover the puppy stage as well as the adult dog. There will be voice commands and hand signals. You will even find hints on how to teach the dog tricks.
Fun for All the Family
Training a dog is a fun project the entire family can enjoy. The children get especially excited when the new dog or puppy responds in a positive way to a command. When you find a training guide that proves to teach effective techniques, do not change teaching habits. Stick with the system you know works. You can have a very obedient pet. One that is loyal and can be trusted. Find the right guide for training a dog and your pet will become even more of a joy to have around.
